Side Trip: St. Joseph Church, Gasan

Pls. like my Facebook page, Bak-paker's Adventures.

For more photos of Gasan's Lenten procession, pls. visit my Facebook album by clicking Gasan Lenten Procession.

St. Joseph Catholic Church – The St. Joseph Catholic Church is located at Gasan, 30-45 mins. jeep ride from Boac. The church is located on top of the hill so you have to climb a long way up to get to the church. Since the church is located on a high place, up there, you can have a nice view of the sea.

After the activities at the Boac Poblacion, maybe you want to experience the grand lenten procession at Gasan. Almost 50 images from St. Joseph Church and Aglipay Church join this procession. Gasan is just 30-45 mins jeep ride from Boac. The procession usually starts at 4PM, Black Saturday. If you have your own vehicle, you may opt to stay and finish the procession. But if you are commuting, always put in mind that last trip going back to Boac is 6PM. If you have extra cash, you can hire a tricycle at P280-P300.

Another must see in Gasan are the Flagellants who engages themselves in what we fondly know as penitensya (penitence). The most common form of penitence are being practiced by men, but in Gasan you will see another, this time practiced by women. Pls. read my articile on penitensya by clicking the link.
