Side Trip: Paete, Laguna

Pls. like my Facebook page, Bak-paker's Adventures

After the Turumba Fiesta, before finally going back to Manila, I made a side trip going to Paete, Laguna. The place is known for its wood crafts. You will also see a lot of art galleries along the streerts.

While roaming around the streets of Paete, I came across one distinct attraction - the Paete Church. This church is widely known as the San Santiago church by many. The church is quite old. The church's facade was made of stone with intricate designs. interios were made mostly of wood.

Another amazing thing about this church is that some of the oldest paitings (circa 1700s) in the Philippines could actually be found in Paete Church. While I was checking the paintings, two paitings really caught my attention. These are the two giant paitings of San Cristobal. If you could still remember the horror movie Shake Rattle and Roll 6 (1997), these paitings were actually part of a scene in the Segment "Tulay" where Matet De Leon, Ara Mina, and Aiza Seguerra were discussing about the myth of San Cristobal.

Paete is such a wonderful place to visit. The place isn't that crowded and you'll surely find a lot of fascinating wood crafts for your home. Don't forget to visit the old Paete Church!
